Is there a cure for Herpes?


No, there is no cure. Herpes is considered a lifelong disease. There are a number of antiviral treatments that can help minimize outbreaks and symptoms, but they will not eliminate the virus completely. In some cases, your Doctor may suggest that you have episodic treatments (when an outbreak occurs) or suppressive treatments (taken daily regardless of the presence of an outbreak.

 

Symptoms can be relieved and the number of outbreaks can be reduced with antiviral drugs like valacyclovir, acyclovir, and famciclovir.   Other treatment options may include immunotherapy, which uses methods to stimulate the bodiy’s immune responses.   A healthy immune system seems to play an important role in controlling the virus.   Don't ignore the need for proper nutrition, exercise, and rest.

 

Like many other viruses, the HSV remains in the body for life.
