HPV

How Do I Know if I have HPV?

One of the reasons HPV may be so common is because it is somewhat difficult to detect.   In both men and women, genital warts are diagnosed by visually detecting the warts in and around the genital area.   Unfortunately, the warts are not always easily visible.   In some cases, the physician has to do something to visualize the warts, like swab the suspected area with an acetic acid solution. In women, Pap tests are used to detect changes in the cell structures in and around the cervix.   If there is suspicion or any indication that HPV might be present, a biopsy might then be performed.
