HPV

What is HPV?

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is considered to be the most common sexually transmitted disease ( STD) in the world. In the U.S.alone, it is estimated that approximately 20 million adults and adolescents are infected, with over six million new infections occurring each year. HPV infections are closely associated with such medical conditions as cervical cancer, anal cancer, and condyloma (genital warts). There are actually more than 100 different types in the HPV family, most of which have proven harmless (like the wart you once got on your finger or foot). About 30 of these are spread through unprotected sexual contact and are classified according to being either a low or high risk.
