Hepatitis

What do they mean by “chronic hepatitis?”

According to the U.S. Center for Health Statistics, chronic hepatitis is defined as having an active virus for a period of three months or more. When the virus does not clear, it is referred to as chronic. About 10% of those infected with the hepatitis B virus become chronic carriers. This means that, while their symptoms have disappeared, they continue to carry the virus and spread it to others. Approximately 25% of chronic carriers eventually die as a result of chronic liver diseases, including cirrhosis and liver cancer.
