Hepatitis

How do I know if I have hepatitis?

The only sure way of knowing is through a blood test. In many cases, hepatitis infection shows no signs or symptoms. This is especially true in children infected with HAV and approximately 80% of individuals infected with HCV. When symptoms are present, they generally include fatigue, muscle aches, abdominal distress, nausea or vomiting, dark-colored urine, and jaundice (yellow skin and eyes). Symptoms can be mild or they can be severe. Mild symptoms are often overlooked or mistaken for the flu. If you have any reason to suspect you might have hepatitis, talk to your doctor about getting tested.
